music review: MUSIC REVIEW-MUCKY PUP |
Mucky Pup - A Boy in a man's world + Now This cd is a single disc re-issue of two albums by Mucky Pup. A Boy in a Man's World was originally released in 1985 and Now was released in 1991.The comedic hardcore/rap-rock band with a funk edge hail from New Jersey and had a ten year career between the mid 80s and the mid 90s although they have since reformed to tour. Their lyrics are very often juvenile (and are supposed to be that way!) and at times sarcastic and titles such as You stink but I love you, Hippies hate water and She quieffed tell you prertty much what Mucky Pup are about. The album, Now, features guest appearances by members of Biohazard with whom they did many gigs. Mucky Pup have also played gigs with bands suich as Primus, Murphy's Law, bad Brains, GWAR and Red Hot Chilli Peppers. Mucky Pup have obviously had an influence on bands that came later such as The Bloodhound Gang and Alien Ant Farm. I'm afraid Mucky Pup are not for me but if this lighter side of hardcore is what floats your boat, and they did have a pretty fanatical following back in the day, then this cd is good value for money as it contains 29 tracks, released on I Scream Records. 2.5 out of 5 Jeanna
